Walk or Run Your Butt Off!

Walking or running your butt off may sound too easy to be effective, but these two simple activities really do work. When many people think about reducing their tush size, their thoughts immediately turn to targeted activities such as hip extensions and lunges, which really do help to tighten the glutes. The value of running and walking, however, is that these activities burn off extra fat while working the muscles of the backside.

Walking for a Smaller Butt

Long distance walking burns calories. As you reduce your caloric intake and increase your exercise level , your body will lose fat from all over the body, including the buttocks. If you’re just starting to exercise again, start with walking. Set a goal to increase your walking distance by a set amount each time you head out. Once you are more fit, add hills to your walks. Hiking up steep hills engages the glutes. Hike with hand and/or ankle weights, or carry a backpack with a water bottle. Any amount of weight that you add while walking uphill will increase the benefits for your glutes.

Run It Off

As you increase your fitness level, try running. Your body will work harder to cover a longer distance in a shorter amount of time. You’ll burn more calories. Be sure to add hill running to your routine to tighten the buttocks muscles.

Dancing for Beginners: The Best Moves for Working Out

Dancing engages your mind, moves your senses and gives you a rigorous workout. You don’t even have to go anywhere to dance. You don't need special clothes or equipment. In fact, you can perform your dance workout in your very own living room. Put on your favorite enlivening music and get started. Here are the best workout dance moves for beginning dancers:

A Dance Warm Up

With any workout, you’ll want to first warm up. With your knees shoulder distance apart, bend your knees slightly and move your hips to the right and then left. Keep the hips moving back and forth to the beat. After two dozen repetitions, push the hips to the front of the room and then back. Keep your knees slightly bent the whole time. Once your hips are warm, circle them to the right, back, left and front. Then reverse the circular motion. With agile hips, you’re ready to try some belly dance moves like Shakira or move to your favorite funky music.

Rockette Kicks

The Rockettes are known for their dazzling high kicks. Don’t worry about kicking your legs that high in the beginning. Kick one leg and then the other to the rhythm of the music. As your agility improves, you’ll be able to kick higher and higher eventually.

Dance Improv

The beauty of dance as a workout is that you can get creative and move as your body desires. Perform memorable moves from your favorite era. Whether you do the running man or the Macarena, all that matters is that you keep moving. Challenge yourself with faster music and more complicated rhythms.

Dancing is a great workout because it gets you moving and you can be creative--there are no wrong moves. And dancing around to your favorite playlist will make your workout minutes speed by in no time.

Reduce Stress on the Job

Stress is a normal part of everyone’s life and can be exponentially greater in the work environment. Your stress on the job may be due to a variety of factors that create anxiety and make you feel out of control. Unreasonable deadlines, unpleasant coworkers, unhappy clients and excessive workloads are just a few causes of stress in the workplace. To reduce your stress on the job, try the following strategies:

Get Enough Rest

Your ability to handle stress will be greatly enhanced if you’ve had enough sleep. Sleep deprivation can lead to moodiness or absentmindedness on the job. Most experts agree that an adult needs between seven to nine hours of sleep a night. Also, try going to bed and waking up at consistent times, as this will help regulate your body's internal clock.

Eat a Healthy Diet and Stay Hydrated

Be sure to eat a healthy breakfast, such as oatmeal or fruit, to fuel you. Avoid skipping lunch because hunger can lead to fatigue and an irritable attitude. If your workload makes it difficult to grab lunch, bring a sandwich and cut veggies to work with you. Always have a water bottle handy at work, since dehydration can cause fatigue and foggy thinking.

Befriend Positive Coworkers

Negative people in the workplace can increase your stress level. Choose to spend your breaks with optimistic and pleasant people who make you laugh and help you focus on the positive things. Making work friends will also give you empathetic listeners in case you need do a little venting.

Eliminate Distractions and Increase Your Focus

Certain types of stress are self-inflicted. Spending excessive amounts of time on the internet, reading personal emails or sending text messages while at work can steal time away from completing your work on time. This type of personal multitasking can be distracting and make you lose focus. Reduce your work stress by limiting these activities to your break time.

How to Survive a Low-Fat Diet

Many successful diets are based on a low fat intake, but if you're not careful, low-fat diets can leave you feeling tired and unsatisfied. Make sure you take some precautions when starting a low-fat diet to stay energized and focused throughout the day.

Gradually Reduce Your Fat Intake

When starting a low fat diet, don't reduce your intake of fat drastically. Reduce the fat that you eat gradually so that your body gets used to eating less and less fat, and may be better able to adapt.

Eat Greens

Green vegetables and fruits are not only healthy, but can also boost your energy, having vital nutrients, minerals and vitamins. Eat greens whenever you feel hungry, as the fibers in the fruits and veggies will make you feel full.

Drink More Water

Increase your intake of water, so that you stay hydrated at all times. The reduction of fat in your diet may also lead to some additional water loss.

Treat Yourself to a Tasty Meal

During your low fat diet, you may reward yourself, but make sure you do so only occasionally. Eat a fatty meal, but only after you have stuck to your diet for at least two weeks.

Can You Sweat off Weight?

If you've ever exercised and gotten sweaty and then weighed yourself immediately after, you've probably noticed that your weight drops a bit in this situation. While losing "water weight" as a result of sweating will bring your total weight down marginally, it's not a healthy way to lose weight.

As your body loses water and nutrients through sweat, your total weight will drop by a very small amount. Because of this, some weight loss programs encourage people to wear heavy clothing in hot temperatures or while working out in order to sweat more. While this may make you lose a bit more weight while you're working out, you'll gain it back immediately when you rehydrate by drinking water or other fluids.

Excessive sweating while exercising or in a hot location can actually be dangerous for your body. This is because it can leave you dehydrated, forcing your body to take emergency measures in order to keep you conscious. If dehydration persists, you may face serious health consequences. You'll also likely not be able to continue exercising, which will reduce your ability to lose weight through a healthy manner while you're sweating excessively.

Cranberry

Cranberries are a group of evergreen dwarf shrubs or trailing vines growing in low, creeping shrubs or vines. Since the early 21st century within the global functional food industry, there has been a rapidly growing recognition of raw (not dried) cranberries for their consumer product popularity, nutrient content and antioxidant qualities, giving them commercial status as a "superfruit".

Cranberries are normally considered too sharp to be eaten plain and raw, as they are not only sour but bitter as well.

Cranberry juice is a major use of cranberries; it is usually either sweetened to make "cranberry juice cocktail" or blended with other fruit juices to reduce its natural severe tartness. Many cocktails, including the Cosmopolitan, are made with cranberry juice.

Usually cranberries as fruit are cooked into a compote or jelly, known as cranberry sauce. Such preparations are traditionally served with roast turkey, as a staple of English Christmas dinners, and the Canadian and US holiday Thanksgiving. The berry is also used in baking (muffins, scones and cakes). Less commonly, innovative cooks use cranberries to add tartness to savory dishes such as soups and stews.

Fresh cranberries can be frozen at home, and will keep up to nine months; they can be used directly in recipes without thawing.

Cranberry wine is made in some of the cranberry-growing regions of the United States from either whole cranberries, cranberry juice or cranberry juice concentrate.

Raw cranberries have moderate levels of vitamin C, dietary fiber and the essential dietary mineral, manganese, as well as a balanced profile of other essential micronutrients.

Six Basic methods to cut down calories

If you are planning to lose weight and are counting your calories, you know that every bit counts. If you want to reduce the amount of calories you are eating, there are some tricks that you can use. However, you should always consult with your physician to establish the minimum amount of calories you can consume to lose weight safely. Here are six ways to cut down calories:

 1. Replace Juice with Fruit

Eat a piece of fruit whenever you feel like reaching for a sugary juice or soft drink. Juices have a lot of added sugar. Or, you can reduce your caloric intake to zero and drink water instead of juice.

2. Go for Smaller Portions

Opt for smaller sandwiches, iced coffees or ice creams. Downsizing just a little can make a big difference in the amount of calories.

3. Cut Down on Cheese

Cheese contains a lot of fat resulting in a lot of calories. Choose the light or low fat version of cheese instead.

4. Choose Fresh Fruit Instead of Dried

Choose fresh fruit instead of dried; it has more nutrition and lesser calories.

5. Measure the Amount You Eat

Measure the amount of foods you eat (e.g. nuts, breads or biscuits), and make sure you don't eat more than one portion.

6. Drink More Water

The size of your stomach limits the amount of food you can eat at once. Fill your stomach with water, which not only keeps you hydrated, but it also keeps you full for a longer period of time. Water has zero calories!

Garlic

Garlic is a species in the onion genus, Allium. Its close relatives include the onion, shallot, leek, chive, and rakkyo. Dating back over 6,000 years, garlic is native to central Asia, and has long been a staple in the Mediterranean region, as well as a frequent seasoning in Asia, Africa, and Europe. It was known to Ancient Egyptians, and has been used throughout its history for both culinary and medicinal purposes.

Botanists classify garlic under two main categories:
·        Ophioscorodon, or hard necked garlic, includes porcelain garlics, rocambole garlic, and purple stripe garlics.
·        Sativum, or soft necked garlic, includes artichoke garlic, silverskin garlic, and creole garlic.

Various garlic health benefits and medicinal properties have long been claimed and it has been used extensively in herbal medicine (phytotherapy). It's been considered by many to be a herbal "wonder drug", with a reputation in folklore for preventing everything from the common cold and flu  to the Plague! Amongst other things raw garlic is used by some to treat the symptoms of acne and there is some evidence that it can assist in managing high cholesterol levels. It can even be effective as a natural mosquito repellent.

Modern science has shown that garlic is a powerful natural antibiotic, albeit broad-spectrum rather than targeted. The bacteria in the body do not appear to evolve resistance to the garlic as they do to many modern pharmaceutical antibiotics. This means that its positive health benefits can continue over time rather than helping to breed antibiotic resistant "superbugs".

Studies have also shown that garlic - especially aged garlic - can have a powerful antioxidant effect. Antioxidants can help to protect the body against damaging free radicals.

Garlic makes a wonderful health supplement for many people but the so-called "garlic cure" is no substitute for the basics: sensible eating and appropriate exercise. Garlic should be seen as part of a healthy lifestyle - not as an alternative to it.

Some people who want the claimed health benefits without the taste prefer to take garlic supplements. These pills and capsules have the advantage of avoiding garlic breath.
